Public lecture Bosnian Language and Culture, Gunja, April 4th, 2018

As part of the initiative of the Council of the Bosniak National Minority of the City of Zagreb, which organizes discussions on the Bosnian language and culture in order to inform and the citizens from Bosnia and Herzegovina about the importance of organizing the teaching of the Bosnian language as C courses in elementary and secondary schools in the Republic of Croatia and motivate them to participate in this initiative, the representatives of the Language Institute of the University of Sarajevo on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, held in Gunja (Croatia) a public lecture entitled Bosnian Language and Culture. The lecture was organized in elementary school, as part of an extended parental meeting, so that the lecture were attended by those who are most concerned about this topic – parents of pupils who are offered the Bosnian language and culture as an optional subject.

The attendees were addressed by dr. sc. Jasmin Hodžić, who spoke about the sociocultural aspects of the Bosnian language, then Haris Ćatović, MA, who briefly presented the history of the Bosnian language, and mr. sc. Zenaida Karavdic, who spoke about dialects and standards, and the importance of creating a wider picture in the study of mother tongue.

We would like to thank the Director of the Elementary School “Antun and Stjepan Radić”, Mr. Stipica Mišura, at the top level organization, the Mayor Mr. Anto Gutić for participation in the organization, and the hosts Mr. Redžo Salkić, deputy chief of the Bosniak national minority, Mr. Zijad Pezerović, and the journalist Mr. Stjepan Bogutovac.
