Days of the Language Institute of the University of Sarajevo, February 21 – March 21, 2018
This year, March 4, the Institute of Language of the University of Sarajevo marks the 46th anniversary of its founding. As already known, March 21 marks the International Mother Language Day. After last year’s successful manifestation Days of the Language Institute of the University of Sarajevo, marking 45 years since the establishment of the Institute, we decided to turn this event into a traditional one.
The content of the event is somewhat different from last year’s content. In the foreground this year is a meeting with representatives of the Macedonian Language Institute “Krste Misirkov” in Skopje and the Faculty of Montenegrin Language and Literature in Cetinje. The hosting will be organized through formal receptions, promotion of all three institutions and talks on the challenges of the southern Slavic and Bosnian-Macedonian cultural linguistic connections, as well as the Montenegrin language and contemporary Montenegristic, and will be held on several occasions from 5 to 7 March 2018. This hosting is a result of last year’s visits of the representatives of the Language Institute to Montenegro and Macedonia, and aims to establish a cooperation, formalize that cooperation and agree on possible joint projects in the future.
Next, the Language Institute will promote its publications in Banja Luka on March 1, in the Bosniak Institute in Sarajevo on March 5 and Konjic on March 20, and the panel discussion on the topic “Bosnian language and the Bosnian-Herzegovinian socio-political context” will be held in Bijelo Polje on February 21, Vareš on February 22, Bugojno on February 23, Prijedor on February 28, Banja Luka on March 1 and in Glamoč on March 12th.
Finally, as part of this event, also traditional, lectures will be held for students of elementary and secondary schools. Unlike last year, when several student tours were organized in the Institute, as well as the Institute’s representatives visit schools, this year we decided to connect all students from Sarajevo schools to the International Mother Language Day, February 21, at a lecture on developing awareness of language identity in the Multimedia Center MAK, in cooperation with the Public Library of Sarajevo. In addition, on March 12, representatives of the Institute will hold a lecture for pupils from Glamoč. In the end, as a preliminary, a digital presentation of 100 dictionaries of the Bosnian language will be held on February 23 at the Second Gymnasium in Sarajevo. This presentation is planned to be further upgraded and distributed in the future.
