Marking the International Mother Language Day Lecture to secondary school students in cooperation with Public Library of Sarajevo, February 21, 2018
A central event marking the International Mother Language Day was a lecture on Developing Awareness of Language Identity. The lecture was organized by the Language Institute of the University of Sarajevo and the Public Library of Sarajevo, and it was held in the Multimedia Center MAK. The lecturers were dr. sc. Alen Kalajdžija, Senior Research Associate and Director of the Institute, and mr. sc. Zenaida Karavdić, Senior Associate at the Institute for Language. The lecture was attended by students of the Third Gymnasium in Sarajevo, the Central Catering and Tourism School in Sarajevo and the Secondary School for Environment and Wood Design in Sarajevo.
Director Alen Kalajdžija talked about the importance of preserving his mother tongue, respecting everyone’s right to preserve his mother tongue, using it and calling it by the name he felt as his own. Zenaida Karavdić spoke about the importance of keeping dialects and the place of dialects in everyday life, but also in linguistics.
Representatives of numerous media were also present, what we appreciate very much.
