Promotion of the institute for Slovenian and Croatian language and our Institute, March 12, 2019
On Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo, three languages institutes were promoted: Institute for the Slovene Language Fran Ramovš, Institute of Croatian Language and Linguistics and Language Institute of the University of Sarajevo. Promotions were opened by dr. Alen Kalajdžija, director of the Language Institute of the University of Sarajevo, that is also the organizer of these promotions as part of the manifestation Institute Days 2019. After that, Rector of the University of Sarajevo prof. dr. Rifat Škrijelj welcomed the initiative of connecting related institutes in the region, and the support was provided by the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia, presented by Ambassador HE Zorica Bukinac, and the Republic of Croatia, presented by Mrs. Jasminka Keser, Ambassador of Culture in the Embassy.
The work of the Institute for Slovene Language was presented by dr. Kozma Ahačič, Director of the Institute, dr. Nataša Gliha-Komac, dr. Helena Dobrovoljc and mr. Janoš Ježovnik. The greatest part of the lecture was dedicated to their Fran portal, where the Institute for Slovene Language presents its work in the field of lexicography and norm, and which can be useful to all who need information about the Slovenian language, but also to all of us dealing with Slavic languages due to the etymological dictionary and presented older phases of the language. In addition, the work of the Institute for the Slovene Language represents excellent guidelines and other institutes that deal with the language for further work.
The Institute of Croatian Language and Linguistics was presented by the Director dr. Željko Jozić and dr. Lana Hudeček. The focus of their presentation was on the Institute’s reference book for language norms, which resolved many years of problems related to the norm of the Croatian language. In addition, they briefly presented their most important projects, such as the creation of a corpus dictionary, a language advisor, a dictionary of valencies, phrases, collocations, school apparatus… The experience of the Croatian Language Institute and their diverse activities are a great guide for our further work.
Our Language Institute presented itself with the editions from 2018. The Institute’s work was briefly presented by the director Alen Kalajdžija, and the editions were presented by prof. dr. Ismail Palić, dr. Halid Bulić, dr. Jasmin Hodžić, mr. Sumeja Bičević and mr. Erma Ramić-Kunić. We exchanged our publications with colleagues from the institutes for the Slovenian and Croatian Language. We continued to hanging on in a dinner party later.
We would like to thank colleagues from the Institute for the Slovene Language Fran Ramovš and the Institute for Croatian Language and Linguistics on their visits and shared experiences, from which, hopefully, future joint projects will be born. We thank all the guests, colleagues and students, as well as representatives of the media who have followed this event.
